Update: Unfortunately, the beautiful Omotesando Koffee has closed its location as of December 2016. However, you can visit their Toranomon location! (1-23-3 Toranomon,Minato-ku,Tokyo  2F Toranomon Hills Mori Tower 105-6302 Japan)

There’s something really beautiful about a quiet minimalist space, especially when found amidst the busy streets of Tokyo. Add some caffeine to that mix, it’s no wonder that Omotesando Koffee is highly praised by many coffee-enthusiasts. Located in the backstreets of Omotesando, Omotesando Koffee’s unassuming entrance is hard to find , but most definitely worth the effort. Not only is its simplistic decor reminiscent of a traditional Japanese house, it has by far the best cup of ice cappuccino I’ve ever had in Japan (doppio if you like it stronger!).

Creamy and generously dusted with cocoa powder, Omotesando Koffee knows how to serve a mean cup cappuccino. From what I saw, its menu also included classic lattes and mochas, alongside more interesting variations such as the shakerato (ice coffee shakened) and cafe granita. If you prefer something sweet to go with your coffee, you can also choose to get a carmelised custard, kashi, at the end.

While I was there, I saw a gorgeous family of four enjoying their coffee–apparently Omotesando Koffee also serves plain cups of frothed milk for kids if you ask for it! Moreover, Eiichi Kunitomo is truly a charismatic barista–worth a visit just to rest in a quiet space filled with his passion for coffee (and in case you’re wondering, the ‘K’ emphasis in Koffee is indeed Kunitomo’s design). I included a picture of Omotesando Koffee’s location so you can find this gem if you are ever in the area, enjoy!

P.S. – I recently found a fascinating website discussing coffee-enthusiasts around the world’s first cup of coffee, coffee drinking rituals etc. In it, you can find a short interview with Eiichi Kunitomo too, check it out here.
